RENO, Nev. – The Nevada women’s basketball team comes back to Lawlor Events Center for two special home games this week – Girls and Women in Sports Day on Wednesday against Utah State and the Play4Kay game against San Diego State on Saturday.
Nevada (10-10, 5-4 Mountain West) split a pair of games on the road last week and has won three of its last four matchups overall. The Wolf Pack enters this week fifth overall in the 11-team Mountain West race.
Wednesday’s game against Utah State will feature public address announcements throughout the game to recognize the history of Girls and Women in Sports Day.
On Saturday, Nevada will go pink for cancer awareness and a number of activities are scheduled to raise funds for the Kay Yow Foundation, a non-profit organization named after the late North Carolina State coach whose mission is to help the fight against women’s cancers. A portion of all funds raised will also be distributed locally to Moms on the Run.
A silent auction will be held during Saturday’s game with items ranging like a Colin Kaepernick-autographed football, a Virgil Green-autographed football, a package of shirts and a signed ball from former Nevada men’s coach Mark Fox (now at Georgia) and signed shoes from WNBA star Elena Della Donne, among other items.
There are also a few spots remaining for the pink treadmill. For more information, contact Janet Butler at (775) 682-6904 or email@example.com.
Fans who wear a pink shirt will get into the game for free and the first 500 fans will receive free pink sunglasses. In-game text-to-donate promotions will be available and the Nevada Cheer team will also “pass-the-bucket” to help raise funds.
Nevada has set a goal of raising $2,014 for the Yow Foundation. To donate, or for more information, visit Play4Kay.org/NevadaHoopPack.
The Wolf Pack will play San Diego State in that game, the only regular season matchup between the teams this season.
The games this week are part of a number of promotions throughout the month for the Wolf Pack as the Feb. 15th game against New Mexico will be part of an Alumni Weekend with a draft party on Friday night and an alumni game prior to the game against the Lobos. On Feb. 22, Nevada will participate in “We Back Pat” efforts by the Pat Summitt Foundation to raise awareness of Alzheimer’s Disease. With Hometown Health as a sponsor, Nevada will give away purple shirts to the first 500 fans at Lawlor.
