RENO, Nev. -
The University of Nevada women’s basketball team (5-8, 0-0 MW) will open Mountain West play Wednesday evening, as the team will host Air Force (1-12, 0-0 MW) at Lawlor Events Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Wolf Pack head coach Jane Albright is 2-2 in regular season openers at Nevada.
“The mental aspect of the game will be very critical because neither team has had the success they wanted during the non-conference schedule,” head coach Jane Albright said. “Air Force is a very experienced team and starts five upperclassmen. My staff has worked very hard to prepare for our first Mountain West game. Handling their pressure defense and containing their main scorers will be two major keys to starting conference play on a high note. The team is excited to build on a tough non-conference schedule by opening the regular season at home.”
The Wolf Pack leads the overall series with the Falcons 3-2. Nevada has won the last three meetings, with the last victory coming during the 2000-01 season’s 85-53 win in Reno. Air Force enters conference play on a three-game skid. Their lone victory came in a overtime 82-78 win over CSU Bakersfield on Dec. 13. The Falcons are led by senior Alicia Leipprandt’s 12.3 ppg. Air Force is 0-6 on the road this season.
