SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -- The University of Nevada men's tennis team earned one victory on Sunday to close out the final day of UCSB Invitational.
Fernando Sunago notched a second-place finish, dropping his singles Flight A Consolation finals match to Ziad Sultan of the University of California, Santa Barbara 6-4, 6-2. Head coach William Burton still felt Sunago has been performing well.
"Fernando has improved a great deal over the summer, and he had a strong showing with two of his losses this weekend to tough players that he took the distance with," he said.
Philip Hinojosa added another Wolf Pack singles victory, defeating Adam Levie of UC Davis 6-4, 6-1 in the Flight C consolation finals.
In doubles action, Ouvrard and Sunago wound up with a second place finish with a 8-4 loss to Sultan and Sasha Gryaznov of Santa Barbara in the doubles Flight B finals.
Hinojosa and Ryan Andrada also dropped their doubles Flight B consolation finals match to Kona Luu and Ganesh Alagappan of the University of California, San Diego 8-6.
"Sunago, Ouvrard, Andrada, Hinojosa and Poustie demonstrated a lot of heart this weekend here in Santa Barbara," Burton said. "We are definitely turning some heads with our results, and hopefully more success will come for Wolf Pack men's tennis next week and then continue into the spring semester."
Wednesday begins the Mountain Regionals, with play starting at 9 A.M.
