Garcin Wins Again at ITA Regionals

SEATTLE, Wash. Nevada sophomore Laurent Garcin won again on Saturday at the ITA Regional Championships hosted by the University of Washington.

Garcin, seeded fifth in singles, beat Portland’s Joel Kincaid, 6-1, 6-4, in the round of 32 to advance to the round of 16 today. Garcin, who received a bye in the opening round, topped Cooper Fratt of Gonzaga in the round of 64 to advance to play Kincaid.

In doubles play, Kristian Kuharszky and Benjamin David lost their opening round match on Saturday, falling to Cal’s Ken Nakahara and Zach Gilbert, 8-3.

Garcin and sophomore Guerin Smith will play in the doubles round of 16 today.

Smith dropped his singles consolation match on Saturday, as did Kuharszky and David. But sophomore Gabe Kanzelmeyer topped Matt Jagiello of UC Davis to advance to the consolation round of 16, as did Augustin Myard.
