EUGENE, Ore. – Closing out the Fall season in style, Nevada freshman Moez Echargui won the consolation-singles green draw at the Pacific Northwest Collegiate Invitational Sunday.

“Moez has been on his game recently,” head coach Erik Burton said. “It is great to see him get a win to close out the fall.”

He was responsible for both of the wins the Wolf Pack earned on what was both the tournament’s final day, and the final day of competition of the fall for Nevada. In the semifinals, Echargui defeated Cesar Torres of Idaho 6-1, 6-4.

In the finals, he continued his strong play by winning in straight sets again, downing Jose Bendeck of Idaho 6-4, 6-3. After losing his opening round match, Echargui lost only one set en route to the consolation-draw title.

The conclusion of the PNW Invite meant the end of a Fall season in which Nevada won three individual singles titles, and saw its top player, Wessim Derbel, lose only two singles matches. Derbel finished the Fall at 10-2 overall in singles play.

"We had a very encouraging Fall season," Burton said. "These men are all working very hard to get better in preparation for the Spring."

Sophomore Victor Ouvrard also had a strong Fall campaign on the singles courts, winning six matches and claiming a consolation-draw title at the Bulldog Classic.

Nevada will begin its dual season with a contest against the UCR Higlanders on January 18, 2012 in Riverside, Calif.
