Nevada Wins Six Matches on Day One

DAVIS, Calif. -- The University of Nevada Men's tennis team opened the UC Davis Fall Aggie Invitational with six wins on Firday.

The biggest win came in the Flight A ITA Singles round of 32, where newcomer and freshman Andrew Poustie upset Toki Sherbakov, the No. 1 seed last year for UC Davis in straight sets 6-4, 6-2. Poustie lost in the round of 16 to Jesse Kiuru 6-1, 6-4

Moez Echargui earned his first victory of the year in the Flight A ITA Singles round of 32, when he scored a victory over Ben Mirkin of Pacific, 6-4, 6-4. He also dropped his round of 16 match against Tuomas Manner, 6-2, 6-3.

In addition to their singles victories, Poustie and Chargui earned a victory in the Flight A ITA Doubles round of 16 over the team of Stolyarov and Cedarwall of Pacific 8-6.

Victor Ouvrard and Fernando Sunago each earned a victory in the Flight A ITA Singles Consolations, winning 6-1 and 6-3, and 7-6(4) and 7-5, respectively.

Ryan Andrada was able to defeat Dexler Dy of 6-0, 6-1 in the Flight B ITA Singles round of 32. Andrada was also ahead of Wyatt Houghton of California 7-6, 2-6, 1-0 when the match was suspended due to darkness. The match will resume Saturday.

"We are starting well, though doubles was tough, we started well in singles," head coach Erik Burton said. "We are getting great experience and a level of consistency that can take us deep into our season with a very positive outcome."
