DAVIS, Calif. - The University of Nevada continued its strong singles play on Saturday at the Aggie Invitational in Davis, Calif.
The Pack recorded a total of four victories on the day, all in singles action. One of the victors was co-captain Quentin Mege, as he moves into one of two finals matches on Sunday for the Pack. Despite a rough day in doubles play, the Pack was still able to notch a finals berth.
"It was a tough doubles day, and we'll continue to improve in that area," said head coach Erik Burton. "This is our first tournament with doubles this year. We had a big day in singles to balance it out, and the Pack will work to finish strong tomorrow."
In his only singles match of the day, Mege was able to oust Lance Ngo of Pacific 6-3, 7-6(5) in his ITA California Singles bracket. Vlad Shchetinin received a bye in his ITA California Singles Consolations semifinal match after his opponent withdrew, then preceded to defeat Mitch Thorp of host UC Davis in his Round Robin Singles match by a score of 6-4, 7-5. This comes one day removed from winning his first singles and doubles matches as a member of the Wolf Pack. The final victory came from Andrew Poustiewhen he stopped James Tallman of the University of San Francisco in straight sets 7-5, 6-1 to earn a semifinal match on Sunday.
Mege and Billy Bumgardner picked up the lone doubles victory on the day to secure a berth in the finals of their ITA California Doubles draw. Together, they defeated Alec Wagner and Mathias Olsen of Saint Mary's by a score of 8-7(1).
The Pack continues the action from the Aggie Invitational on Sunday morning.
