TULSA, Okla. -- Two members of the University of Nevada men’s team have moved on in the pre-qualifying rounds of the ITA All-American Tournament on Sunday.
The Pack went 2-for-2 in its matches in Tulsa on Sunday, as both Andrew Poustie and Moez Echargui picked up second round victories. Head coach Erik Burton is thrilled with the way the team has been preforming in a tough challenge to start the season.
“The guys are playing well right now, and it’s great to see right out of the gate,” he said. “These spots are typically offered to the top 150 players in the nation, so they’re playing against great competition and playing well thus far.”
Echargui was first up on the day, and he knocked off a tough opponent from Duke in Josh Levine. It took three sets, but Echargui ground out the win 5-7, 7-6, 6-4. Poustie picked up the second victory in the afternoon after he defeated Chase Gordon of University of Tulsa in straight sets 6-3, 7-5.
Echargui and Poustie will be in pre-qualifying action again on Monday for the third round, and Victor Ouvrard waits for his qualifying match to begin later next week.
