Sunago Clinches, Nevada Bests Utah State

RENO, Nev. – The University of Nevada men’s tennis team picked up its second Western Athletic Conference victory of the season Friday, beating the Utah State Aggies 5-2 at Lakeridge Tennis Club.

Nevada improved to 9-10 (2-3 WAC) with the win, while Utah State fell to 5-13 (0-4 WAC). The Wolf Pack took the doubles point with wins at the first two positions.

Wessim Derbel and Fernando Sunago won their ninth match of the dual season and third in a row at No. 1, beating Sven Poslusny and Marcus Fritz 8-4.

Sunago got his second win of the day at No. 4, clinching the match for the Pack. He bested Nate Ballam 7-5, 6-2 for his team-leading, third-straight win.

Nevada took two of the first three singles matches to push ahead 3-1, winning at No. 2 and No. 3. Victor Ouvrard improved to 10-8 at two this season with a 6-1, 7-5 victory over Fritz. Moez Echargui also won in straight sets, besting Fredrik Peterson 6-2, 6-0 at the third position. Jordan Rozenfeld added the fifth and final point for Nevada with his seventh dual win of the year.

The Pack will take on UC Davis at noon on Saturday at Lakeridge to close out the regular season. The match will be senior day for Nevada, as Derbel and Rozenfeld will play their last regular-season matches in the Silver and Blue.
