Pack Takes Out No. 73 Texas A&M Corpus Christi
Jan. 22, 2012 Nevada 5, A&M CC 2 ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The University of Nevada men’s tennis team defeated No. 73 Texas A&M Corpus Christi 5-2 Sunday. The Wolf Pack improved to 2-2, while the Islanders fell to 2-1. Nevada started the match with a win in each of the three doubles matches played. The closest of the three doubles matches came at the No. 2 position, where Nathan Reix and Quentin Mege defeated Aurelien Tave and Matt Westmoreland 9-7. The top four spots in the Nevada singles lineup earned victories for the Pack, including wins from two newcomers in the No. 3 and No. 4 positions. At No. 3 singles, Moez Echargui defeated Gergo Weidinger 6-2, 6-1. At the No. 4 position, Fernando Sunago bested Matt Westmoreland 6-1, 5-7, 6-3. In addition to strong play from the newest members of the Pack, senior and team captain Wessim Derbel won his fourth match in a row this Spring. The No. 55 ranked player in the country, Derbel won 6-2, 6-1 over Peter Nagy on court one. After competing in four matches during the first week of the Spring season, the Pack will take the court next when it travels to San Francisco to take on the Dons on February 2. The match is scheduled to begin at noon.
