Sept. 29, 2012
RENO, Nev. – The University of Nevada men’s golf team will play its second tournament of the 2012-2013 season next week, traveling to the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate hosted by Louisiana Tech on Monday.
“We are excited to get back in action. We had a great week of practice and we’re headed down there ready to compete,” said head coach Jacob Wilner.
Nevada will be one of the 14 teams participating in a 54-hole tournament to be played on the par-72, 7,105-yard Squire Creek Country Club in Choudrant, La. The teams will play 36 holes in a shotgun start beginning at 6 a.m. (Pacific) on Monday. The final 18-hole round will be played on Tuesday. The four low individual scores will determine the team’s scores for each round.
Junior Ryan Mulvany will be the lone upperclassman in the group of five players traveling to the tournament. Sophomores Zak Griffiths, Andrew Cornella, Taylor Knoll, and Gustavo Chuang will be other members of the squad.
Nevada has a history of success in the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate. In the second round in 2008, Nevada recorded the third-lowest round in tournament history with a combined 279. During an individual win at the same event, former Nevada standout Taylor Coffman recorded the fourth-lowest individual round with a 66 in the final round.
