Men's golf opens at Air Force event

RENO, Nev. – With four newcomers in tow, the Nevada men’s golf team opens the 2013-14 season on Sunday at the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational in Colorado Springs.
Air Force hosts the 45th annual event at the Eisenhower Golf Club - Blue Course. The 54-hole tournament is slated to begin with two rounds on Sunday with a shotgun start and the final round will be on Monday.
Nevada will send a team consisting of returners Ryan Mulvany and Brian Knoll along with newcomers Nicholas Smits, Josh Baskins, Rhyne Jones and Zach Berhost. Five players will compete as a team, counting the top four scores, and Berhost will compete as an individual at this event.
“We had a very successful qualifier and are eager to compete” head coach Jacob Wilner said. “Four of the six players in the lineup are new to the team this season and have already made a huge positive impact on Nevada men’s golf.”
Sixteen teams are slated to compete in this year’s tournament. They are: Air Force, Air Force JV, Colorado, Colorado State, Maryland, Nevada, New Mexico State, Northern Colorado, Southern Utah, UMKC, Utah, Utah State, UTEP, Weber State, Wichita State and Wyoming.
