The Nevada men's golf team had a strong showing in the Nevada State Amateur, played this week at Hidden Valley Country Club in Reno.

Incoming freshmen Taylor Knoll and Gustavo Chuang as well as senior Kevin Lucas each finished tied for seventh in the tournament with 1-under 217s for the three-round event. Sophomore Brian Knoll and another freshman, Andrew Cornella, were a shot back, giving Nevada five of the top 12 spots in the tournament.

Senior Gavin Kwon wasn't far back as he was tied for 15th at 220 for the tournament. Rounding out the Silver and Blue contingent were freshman Zak Griffiths (T22, 225) and senior Philip Snow (T25, 229).

All eight of the player were upstaged by their coach, however. Second-year head coach Jacob Wilner carded a final-round 72 on Friday and tied for fifth place with an even-par 216.

The event was won by JT Cockeril, who was 10 under for the three-round tournament.
