Hallisey Finishes Third at Barona Collegiate Cup
RENO, NEV. – A third place finish by senior Ryan Hallisey led the University of Nevada men’s golf team finished fourth at the 2010 Barona Collegiate Cup. The 17-team tournament was hosted by San Diego State and held in Lakeside Calif. at the Barona Creek Golf Club March 25-26.
Six golfers played per team and the low five scorers counted toward team score each round. The Wolf Pack carded eight-over 368 in round three to fall from second to fourth place with a three round total of 18-over 1098 (353-377-368). San Diego State held the lead as the Aztecs carded a tournament total eight-under 1072 (357-355-360), a 22-stroke advantage over UC-Irvine carding 14-over 1094 (367-366-360). Oregon took third after carding even par in round three to end at 17-over 1097 (368-369-360), just a one stroke advantage over the Wolf Pack. Northwestern rounded out the top five at 24-over 1104 (362-373-369).
Hallisey finished third, four-strokes behind the first place finisher, yet shot all three rounds under par. His best was four-under 68 on Friday to come in third with a three round total of eight-under 208 (71-69-68). Senior Jared Becher (70-79-73) and junior Chris Plappert (72-73-77) tied for 30th carding six-over 222 while senior Taylor Coffman carded three-under 69 in round one to end in a seven-way tie for 40th at eight-over 224 (69-75-80). Junior Scott Smith shot four-over 75 in Fridays final round to finish in a tie for 59th (71-82-75) and senior Travis Esway round out the Pack by carding two rounds of four-over 75 to come in tied for 70th at 15-over 231 (75-81-75).
John Chin o f UC-Irvine won individually after carding seven-under 65 in round one to end the tournament at 12-under 204 (65-71-68) and Johan Carlsson (San Diego State) came in second at nine-under 207 (68-69-70).
