NORMAN, Okla. – Nevada’s Kevin Lucas fell back to a tie for 36th place after a second-round 79 on Friday at the NCAA Regional at the Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club.

Teeing off on the 10th hole to start his round, Lucas was a strong early. He had a birdie on the 10th and another on the 14th to get to 2 under for the day and 3 under for the tournament, just three strokes off the lead at the time.

But he bogeyed five in a row at one stretch and, for the second day in a row, bogeyed his 18th hole to close with the 7 over 79. The final round of the event is Saturday. The top five teams from each region along with the low individual not on one of those teams will advance to the NCAA Championships at Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif.

“It was a tough day out there with windy conditions from the moment he teed off until the final putt dropped,” Nevada coach Jacob Wilner said. “With those conditions and Kevin not having his best day, it wasn’t a good mix. But tomorrow’s a new day and Kevin has the opportunity to go out there and finish this thing strong.”
