Nevada tied for third after day one

EL MACERO, Calif. – The Nevada men’s golf team is tied for third after the first round of the El Macero Classic co-hosted by UC Davis and Nevada.

Nevada shot a five-over 293 in the first round, and is tied with Sacramento State. Nevada is eight shots out of second place.

Seniors Josh Baskins and Ryan Mulvany are tied for fourth after shooting a one-under 71 in the first round. Senior Brian Knoll is tied for 27th with a three over 75, freshman Rhyne Jones is tied for 33rd, and junior Nicholas Smits is tied for 49th.

Nevada also has four players competing individually. Sophomore Kit Carson is tied for 20th after shooting a two over-74 in the first round. Freshman Zach Berhost and junior Gustavo Chuang are both tied for 33rd, and Junior Derek Ream is in 69th.

“We posted a few big numbers today which took us a little out of lead,” said head coach Jacob Wilner. “With two more rounds still to be played though, we are looking to improve tomorrow.”

The second 18-hole round will be played on Saturday at the El Macero Country club.
