TEMPE, Ariz. – Following the final day of the ASU Thunderbird Invitational, the Nevada men’s golf team tied for third place at Karsten Golf Course.
The Wolf Pack shot a team round of 288 in the final round to post a three-round total of 846, finishing at 6-under par for the tournament. Nevada tied with Washington for third behind UNLV and event winner and event host, Arizona State. ASU’s second team, the B squad, was the third ranking team in the field but their finish does not count in the official results. The Sun Devils won the event at 41-under par by 20 shots over the Rebels. The Pack, along with six other teams in the 15-team field, finished under par and finished higher than California for the first time in nearly a decade.
Junior Grant Booth finished as the Pack’s leader with a tie for 12th place. He made four birdies during Sunday’s final round to shoot an even par 71, tied for the team-low for the day. Booth produced a final score of 4-under par, making it three consecutive events that he has finished under par. Sophomore Travis Fredborg also carded an even par round on Sunday to notch a top 20 finish at 1-under par. This also marks Fredborg’s second straight tournament under par.
Junior Corey Eddings tied with Fredborg at 1-under par and a tie for 20th place. This is Eddings’ first top 20 finish since the fall season. Senior Nick Fuller shot a 1-over par round of 72 on Sunday to finish at even par for the tournament and a tie for 27th, placing all four counting scores in the top 30. Junior Kaleb Gorbahn tied for 71st at 13-over par.
Collin Morikawa of California took the individual title at 13-under par. Morikawa bested runner-ups Shintaro Ban of UNLV and Chun An Yu of Arizona State by one shot.
Nevada will be back on the course for Stanford’s event, The Goodwin, which will begin March 30 and be played for three days.
