LAST TIME THEY MET (Sept. 23, 2000)
LARAMIE, Wyoming -- Marquis Starks scored on a 16-yard run with 41 seconds remaining as Nevada had three touchdowns in the final period to rally for a 35-28 victory over Wyoming.
Starks' run capped a five-play, 56-yard drive that culminated a wild offensive contest.
The Wolf Pack trailed 14-0 after the first quarter and 21-13 after three periods before quarterback David Neill ran for a score early in the final quarter and passed for another just over a minute later to give Nevada a 28-21 lead.
On the next possession, Cowboys quarterback Jay Stoner engineered a 12-play, 69-yard drive capped by his five-yard connection to wide receiver Ryan McGuffey that tied the score.
But Nevada (1-2) made the most of its last possession as Starks' run gave the Wolfpack their first win of the season. Starks gained 68 yards on 19 carries.
Wyoming (1-3) took the lead midway through the opening quarter on a 35-yard run by Brett Ralph. Brother Brock Ralph hauled in an 18-yard strike from from Stoner in the waning seconds of the period, giving the Cowboys a 14-0 lead.
Neill's first touchdown, a 28-yard run early in the second quarter, cut the deficit in half. Stoner connected with Brett Ralph on a 12-yard TD pass that restored the 14-point cushion just over a minute later.
Nevada's Mike Phillips added a 41-yard field goal as time expired in the half, cutting the deficit to 21-10.
The Wolf Pack drew within 21-13 on Phillips' second field goal late in the third period and took their first lead with 11:57 left.
Neill completed 15-of-27 passes for 190 yards and gained 54 yards on eight carries.
Stoner was 25-of-43 for 206 yards and three TDs.

LAST TIME OUT
SAN MARCOS, Texas -- Cody Fajardo accounted for 381 yards of total offense with three passing touchdowns and the Nevada defense shutout Texas State in the second half en route to a 34-21 at Bobcat Stadium on Saturday.
Fajardo completed 21-of-34 for 286 yards and three scores while rushing for 95 yards on just 10 carries. Stefphon Jefferson, the nation’s leading rusher, ran for 178 yards on 40 carries while Brandon Wimberly caught six passes for a career-high 135 yards for Nevada.
Texas State led 21-20 at halftime but Nevada scored two early touchdowns and clamped down on the Bobcats defensively in the final 30 minutes. Texas State had just 83 yards of total offense in the second half.
The win was the 37th second-half come-from-behind victory in the Hall of Fame career of Nevada head coach Chris Ault.
Nevada improved to 4-1 overall and the Wolf Pack’s 1-0 record in Mountain West play will be put to the test next week against Wyoming.
Texas State fell to 2-2.

THREE-DOT REVIEW
With the win at Texas State on Saturday, Nevada improved to 514-442-33 all-time and Hall of Fame Coach Chris Ault saw his record go to 230-104-1 … Fifth-year senior Mark Avery made his first career start and registered his first career sack in the win … Cody Fajardo’s 286 yards and three touchdowns marked season highs … Sophomore cornerback Evan Favors also made his first career start as Kahalid Wooten was out due to injury … Texas State won the toss and deferred to the second half … Nevada received the opening kickoff and defended the north goal to start the game … Nevada opened in a two-tight end set with Kolby Arendse getting the start at TE and WR Richy Turner making his third start … Chris Barker started his 45th straight game, all 45 games of his career … Senor free safety Marlon Johnson returned to the starting lineup after missing two games with an injury … Nevada has travel approximately 8,000 miles in the past nine days for wins at Hawaii and Texas State.
