Bailey, Bergendahl Named WAC Players of the Week
Sept. 19, 2005
DENVER - DENVER - Nevada defensive end Craig Bailey (Sr., Long Beach, Calif.) and Wolf Pack punter Justin Bergendahl (Sr., Hayward, Calif.) and Fresno State quarterback Paul Pinegar were named the Xbox Live Western Athletic Conference defensive, special teams and offensive players of the week, respectively, the conference office announced today.
Bailey, a senior from Long Beach, Calif. (Lakewood HS), led the Wolf Pack with six tackles, including one for a loss, and recovered a fumble in Nevada's 22-14 win over UNLV. Bailey helped Nevada limit the Rebels to just 263 yards of total offense and 14 points, both numbers the fewest given up by a WAC team this season.
Bergendahl, a senior from Hayward, Calif. (Chabot JC), punted four times for a 52.8-yard average in the win over UNLV. He hit a career-long 70-yarder, and three of his four punts were downed inside the 20-yard line.
Pinegar, a senior from Woodland, Calif. (Woodland HS), threw for three touchdowns and completed 33-of-43 passes for a career-high 418 yards in a 37-34 loss at Oregon. The 33 completions set an Autzen Stadium record. Pinegar also rushed for 40 yards to give him 458 yards of total offense, the sixth-best total in Fresno State history.
Others nominated on offense: junior quarterback Jeff Rowe, Nevada.
Also nominated on defense: senior linebacker Barry Robertson, Louisiana Tech.
Other special teams nominations: sophomore place kicker Clint Stitser, Fresno State.
Nevada (1-1) travels to Colorado State (0-2) Saturday for a 4:00 p.m. MDT non-conference game in Fort Collins, Colo.
