With the WAC's leading rusher in Luke Lippincott returning for his senior season, it will be a fight to get carries for the rest of the Wolf Pack running backs. But sophomore Vai Taua is finding a way to get noticed so far in preseason camp.
Taua, who had and up-and-down season in 2007, came into camp battling for a spot on the depth chart in a loaded stable of running backs. He appeared in eight games last season, gaining 112 yards on 19 carries. He scored his first career touchdown on an 11-yard run against Idaho.
So far in camp, Taua has impressed the coaching staff, both in practices and in the team's two full scrimmages.
"Vai has showed tremendous maturity and discipline over last year," running backs coach Jim Mastro said. "He is in great shape and finally has a complete understanding of how we want things done."
