Kaepernick, Moch Named to Watch Lists
RENO, Nev. – Nevada seniors Colin Kaepernick and Dontay Moch were both named to watch lists for college football awards on Monday.
Kaepernick, a quarterback from Turlock, Calif. (Pitman HS) was named to the Watch List for the 2010 Walter Camp Player of the Year Award, which was announced by the Walter Camp Football Foundation. He was also named to the Watch List for the Maxwell Award, given annually to the nation’s outstanding college football player. Both Watch Lists were announced Monday.
Moch, a defensive end from Chandler, Ariz. (Hamilton HS) was named to the Watch List for the 2010 Chuck Bednarik Award, which is given annually to the nation’s top defensive player. The Watch List was also announced Monday.
Kaepernick is entering his fourth season as a starter and is a two-time All-WAC selection as well as the 2008 WAC Offensive Player of the Year. He is currently ranked in the top 15 in career rushing yards by a quarterback and in career rushing touchdowns by a quarterback. He needs roughly 1,000 rushing yards and 1,000 passing yards to become just the second player in college football history to throw for 8,000 yards and rush for 4,000 yards in a career.
Moch, the 2009 WAC Defensive Player of the Year, is one of the premier defensive ends in the nation. He enters his senior season poised to become the school’s all-time leader in sacks and tackles for loss He has also been named previously to the Watch List for the Bronko Naguski Award, given annually to the nation’s top defensive player, and the Lott Trophy. He was voted the 2010 WAC Preseason Defensive Player of the Year. He needs 10 tackles for loss and 7.5 sacks to become the school’s all-time leader in those categories. He needs those same statistics to break the Western Athletic Conference records in those categories as well. Moch holds Nevada’s single-season records in sacks (11.5 in 2008) and tackles for loss (20.0 in 2009).
