RENO, Nev. – The University of Nevada football team had six players earn Preseason All-Mountain West accolades on Wednesday from Athlon Sports.

Junior defensive end Brock Hekking was a first-team selection by the magazine, a repeat of a similar honor a month ago from Phil Steele’s College Football Preview.

On the second team, Nevada was represented by wide receiver Brandon Wimberly and offensive lineman Joel Bitonio along with punter Chase Tenpenny. Sophomore defensive end Lenny Jones and junior senior defensive tackle Jack Reynoso earned third-team honors from Athlon.

Athlon is the second major publication to release its preseason all-conference teams.

Phil Steele named 10 Wolf Pack players to its 2013 Preseason All-Mountain West Team. That included Hekking on the first team and Wimberly and Bitonio on the second team. Jones was a third-team selection while quarterback Cody Fajardo also earned third-team honors. Nevada had five representatives on the fourth team with running back Don Jackson, wideout Richy Turner, tight end Kolby Arendse, defensive tackle Jordan Hanson and Tenpenny.
