New Scoring Format For Annual Silver And Blue Spring Game

RENO, Nev. – The University of Nevada will hold the annual Silver and Blue Spring Game on Saturday at Mackay Stadium.

The intrasquad scrimmage will begin at 10 a.m. and will feature a new scoring system this year. A number of free giveaways and activities for fans are also on the schedule. Gates to Mackay Stadium will be open by 9:30 a.m. and the event is free and open to the public.

The game will be a scrimmage between the offense and defense and the Wolf Pack coaching staff has created a new scoring system for the event. In addition to traditional scoring methods (touchdown = 6 points, extra point = 1 point, field goal = 3 points), the Wolf Pack offense can also earn additional points with three consecutive first downs (2 points), 15-yard (or more) running plays (2 points) and 20-yard (or more) passing plays (2 points).

The Nevada defense earns points for: Blocked field goals (3 points); blocked extra points (1 point); forcing turnovers (4 points); forcing a three-and-out (3 points); sacks (2 points); forcing a stop on fourth down (2 points), tackle for loss (1 point); pass-breakups (1 point); forcing a punt (1 point); and forcing a fumble (1 point).

The schedule of events begins at 9:30 a.m. -- although tailgating in the North Lot is permitted earlier that day -- as the Wolf Pack band will begin playing at Mackay Stadium. Following the playing of the national anthem and team introductions, the Silver and Blue Game will begin around 10 a.m.

The game is scheduled to run until noon and will have performances by the cheer and dance teams, firing of the cannon by the ROTC after each score, music and public address. After the game, fans are welcome to join the team on the field for autographs and picture opportunities. The Fremont Cannon will also be on display.

After the game, there will be an Easter Egg hunt for children (bring your own basket). There will also be bounce houses available for children to play in throughout the day.

Famous Dave’s BBQ will be on hand to provide free samples and there will be giveaways provided by Champagne Family Dentistry.  The coaches and players will be available for autographs after the game and Silver and Blue Outfitters will have merchandise available for purchase.
