Hug joins Jay Norvell’s staff after spending one season at Mountain West divisional foe San Jose State, as its director of football operations. Before his time at SJSU he was part of the staff at Arizona State, serving various roles.
Initially in 2011 he joined the Sun Devils football program in an administrative role working in admissions. The next season he began working in areas such as student-athlete recruitment and game film breakdown of recruits. Hug was promoted to coordinator of football operations for the 2015 season and added such duties as human resources, sports performance, meal planning, ticketing, and bowl game and booster responsibilities.
Hug’s first football coaching job was as a graduate assistant at his alma mater of Lake Erie College in Painesville, Ohio, where he coached the defensive lineman for the 2010 season. He earned both his master’s degree in education (2011) and his bachelor’s in business administration (2009) from Lake Erie College.
A native of Eastlake, Ohio, Hug was a two-sport letterwinner at Lake Erie in football and baseball. He played on Lake Erie’s first intercollegiate football team in 2008 and was named to the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division II all-start team as a punter in 2009. As a member of the baseball team at Lake Erie he finished with a career record of 5-3.
