Silver Squad Closes Out World Series With 4-1 Victory
Reno, Nev. - The University of Nevada silver team defeated the blue squad 4-1 on Wednesday morning at Peccole Park to take the Silver & Blue Baseball World Series by winning two of the three games. With the Silver & Blue Baseball World Series completed the Wolf Pack will look forward to the regular season which gets underway at home on Feb. 22, 2008 versus 2007 College World Series participant UC Irvine.
The silver team scored four runs with two outs in the top of the fourth inning off losing pitcher Chris Garcia to take controll of the game. Left fielder Dan Eastham drew a walk to get the inning started and was moved into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt by second baseman Nick Leid. After a ground out shortstop Garrett Patterson delivered an RBI single and catcher Travis Simes followed with an RBI double. Outfielder Jason Sadoian then drew a walk and third baseman Jason Rodriguez cleared the bases with with a two RBI triple and it was 4-0. Garcia struckout designated hitter Matt Bowman to end the inning.
The blue squad scored its run in the bottom of the fourth inning when outfielder Aaron Henry doubled and scored on designated hitter Matt Langenfeld’s RBI single to make the score 4-1. In the bottom of the ninth inning the blue squad had two runners on base with two down but catcher Tyson Jaquez lined out to left field to end the game.
Rodriguez was the offensive star of the game with his two hits and two RBI.
Four silver squad pitchers Jordan Salazar, Josh Holman, Jacob Kaup, and Sam Miller combined to allow just one run in the game. Salazar pitched three innings to get the win allowing one run on four hits.
