Reno, Nev. - The University of Nevada silver team downed the blue squad in the first game of the Nevada Silver & Blue Baseball World Series 3-2 at Peccole Park, Monday morning. Sophomore Matt Bowman scored the winning run in the top of the third inning to give the silver team the victory.
Senior Dan Eastham pitched 4.1 innings of two hit ball to get the win and Stephen Bautista pitched a scoreless ninth to earn the save. Senior Kyle Howe was tagged with the loss after allowing three runs on seven hits in five innings on the mound.
Bowman led the silver squad with a double and a sac fly in addition to scoring the winning run. In the top of the third inning Bowman doubled and later scored the winning run on a wild pitch.
Game two of the three game series is set for Tuesday morning at 9:00 a.m. and is free to the public. A pair of right-handers square off in game two with Rod Scurry getting the start for the silver squad and Mario Rivera takes to the mound for the blue team.
