Blue Wins Game Three 13-3 To Take 2-1 Series Lead
RENO, Nev. - The blue team defeated the silver squad for the second day in a row and now leads the University of Nevada's Silver and Blue Series 2-1. The blue team scored a 13-3 victory on Wednesday morning at Peccole Park and looks to clinch the series tomorrow with first pitch scheduled for 9:00 a.m. Thursday's game is free and open to the public.
The blue team scored a pair runs in the top of the second inning on Cody Collins' two RBI single that scored Nick Melino and Garrett Yrigoyen. The white team got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the inning when Carlos Escobar doubled home Hugo Hernandez to cut blue's lead in half at 2-1.
In the top of the fifth inning the blue team scored three runs on five hits with four of the hits being doubles to move in front 5-1. Anthony Rosa, Waylen Sing Chow, Melino and Michael Turay had RBI hits in the inning.
The white squad scored twice in the bottom of the fifth inning to make the score 5-3. One run scored on an error and the other crossed the plate on Brian Barnett's two-out RBI single.
A four-run top of the sixth put the blue team on top 9-3. Rosa's single drove in the first run of the inning and Sing Chow's fielders choice scored the second run. Melino's double plated the final two runs of the big inning.
Four more runs by the blue team in the top of the seventh inning made the final score 13-3. Loren Gardner Young singled home two runs and the last two runs of the game scored on an error.
Derek Allen earned the win allowing two runs, one earned in his four innings on the mound. Allen gave up six hits and struck out three. Ricky Denham took the loss giving up three runs on three hits and struck out five in 4.1 innings on the mound.
Melino went 3-for-4 at the plate and drove in three runs to lead the blue team. Rosa was 2-for-4 and Gardner Young collected two hits in three at bats with each driving home two runs.
Joe Kohan (2-for-4) and Hernandez (2-for-3) had two hits apiece to top the white team offensively.
