Wichita, Kan. - Current University of Nevada outfielder/infielder Matt Bowman played his summer baseball with the Santa Barbara Foresters and helped lead the team to the National Baseball Congress Championship in Wichita, Kan. over the weekend. Bowman will be a junior when school begins in the fall and led the Wolf pack with a .376 batting average this past year.
The Foresters were undefeated in the tournament going 7-0 on the way to winning the championship with an 8-7 victory over the Derby Twins in the title game. Bowman started all seven games during the tournament including the title game in left field but finished the championship game playing second base. He went 0-for-3 at the plate in the championship game but scored two of the team’s eight runs in the game. In the 16-day tournament he batted .269(7-for-26) with seven runs scored, drove in six, and hit a home run.
