RENO, Nev. - University of Nevada senior outfielder Brooks Klein has been named to the 2013 Capital One Academic All-America second team that was announced today.  The team is voted on by the College Sports Information Directors of America.  Klein was named to the All-District 8 squad in early May which put him on the national ballot.

Klein, from Blue Diamond, Nev., has a 3.9 GPA in community health sciences and was named to the All-Mountain West second team for his play in his senior year.   The Wolf Pack’s starting right fielder was the only Nevada player to play in all 57 games this season and started 56.  He finished the season tied for tops on the team with a .346 batting average and led the team in RBI (42), hits (75), doubles (14), triples (4), runs scored (36), total bases (118) an at bats (217).  His seven home runs were good for second on the team.  Klein ranks in the top 10 in seven offensive categories in the Mountain West.

In his two seasons at Nevada, he played in all 114 games and started 112.  A 63 game streak of consecutive starts came to an end at Utah Valley when he did not get the start but did appear as a pinch hitter.  In two seasons he posted a career batting average of .340 with 69 runs scored, 143 hits, 30 doubles, 10 triples, 15 home runs and 84 RBI.
