Nevada to Take on San Jose State in WAC Tournament Opener

The Nevada baseball team will take on the San Jose State Spartans in its first game of the 2011 Western Athletic Conference baseball tournament this Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Hohokam Stadium in Mesa, Ariz.

This marks the fifth time in six years that Nevada will take on San Jose State in its first game of the conference tournament and the third time the Wolf Pack has ended the regular season against the Spartans and opened the conference tournament against them.

The Pack has a 3-4 record against San Jose State in the WAC tournament since its first appearance in 2006. In first round games, the Wolf Pack is 2-2 against the Spartans.

Three Nevada Baseball Players Graduate: Seniors Mat Keplinger, Tyler Rogstad and Mark Joukoff each received their degree from the University of Nevada on Saturday, May 14, 2011.

Stassi Owns Fourth Best Average in the WAC: Brock Stassi has the fourth highest batting average in the conference at .376 ... four RBI and four hits vs. Sacramento State (5/15) tied career-highs ... the senior's 71 hits are fourth most in the conference ... his 19 doubles are third most  and put him just three away from entering the top 10 and six away from tying the single-season Nevada record set by Justin Drizos in 1994 ... has the fifth best on base percentage at .471, seventh highest slugging percentage at .540, tied for fourth most total bases with 102 and 31 walks are ninth most in the WAC ... ranks in multiple offensive categories in WAC play as well ... his 42 hits are a conference-high, 11 doubles are second most behind teammate Nick Melino's 13, 23 RBI are fifth best, and his .438 average is second best ... has 21 multi-hit games and six multi-RBI games this season ... has multiple hits in 17 of the last 28 games, seven of which are three-hit games and one that was a four-hit game vs. Sacramento State (5/15) ... batting .412 (14-for-34) with three runs scored, a double, two triples and eight RBI during a current eight-game hit streak which is tied with Nick Melino for the longest active streak on the team ... has reached base in 15 consecutive games.

Troy Marks is 2-5 with a 3.88 ERA in 16 appearances this season ... took the loss at Fresno State (5/19) going five innings and allowing five runs (two earned) on six hits, four walks and five strikeouts ... career-best performance came vs. Hawai'i (5/5) when he threw a complete-game shutout and held Hawai'i to just three hits (all singles) ... is 2-3 with 29 strikeouts, 15 walks, and has a 3.54 ERA in 40.2 innings in six starts in conference play ... threw back-to-back complete games versus Hawai'i (5/6) and Sacramento State (5/13) ... Wolf Pack-Aces Exhibition Raises $15,000 For Dugout Club: The University of Nevada and Reno Aces Baseball Club played the Silver City Classic, an exhibition game at Aces Ballpark Tuesday Apr. 5. The game marked the second year in a row the two teams played an exhibition contest just prior to the start of the Aces season and for the second time $15,000 was raised for the Nevada Dugout Club. The Aces won this year's game 9-3 and last year's 11-1.
