RENO, Nev. -  Five members of the University of Nevada baseball team were named to the 2014 All-Mountain West baseball team for their play this season as the Wolf Pack finished fourth with a 15-15 conference mark.  First baseman Austin Byler and outfielder Brad Gerig were first team selections.  Relief pitcher Colby Blueberg along with outfielders Trenton Brooks and Kewby Meyer were named to the second team.

All-conference selections are based on play in the MW games only.

Byler from Peoria, Ariz. hit .325 in MW play and led the conference with 10 home runs and five triples.  He was second in slugging percentage (.702), total bases (80) and tied for second with 28 runs scored.  The junior was fifth in on base percentage (.423), seventh in RBI (23), tied for sixth in walks (15) and tied for sixth being hit by pitch six times.

Playing primarily right field for the Pack Gerig was second in the conference with a .375 batting average and .460 on base percentage.  The Roseville, Calif. senior was fifth in slugging percentage (.542) and tied for seventh with four home runs.  He also ranked in the top 20 in hits (36), RBI (20), doubles (7), total bases (52) and walks (12) in the MW.

The Pack's left fielder Meyer hit .333 in MW play to tie for 14th in the conference.  The junior from Waipahu, Hawaii tied for first with 129 at bats, tied for third with 43 hits, was third with 11 doubles, tied for sixth with 140 plate appearances, tied for ninth with 22 runs scored and was seventh with 59 total bases.  He set the school record with 26 doubles on the season.

Brooks was one of two freshmen named to an All-MW team starting 17 games in the outfield and six at designated hitter.  In 26 MW games played the Alpine, Calif. native batted .347 to rank seventh in the conference.  His seven doubles tied for 16th and .475 slugging percentage ranked 14th.

Spending most of the season as the Pack's setup man Blueberg allowed just one run in 23 innings to post a 0.39 ERA in MW play.  The Carson City, Nev. product struck out 21, walked just three and conference opponents hit just .179.  He earned a victory over Fresno State and a save against MW co-champion New Mexico.  The junior led the MW with 18 appearances and 18 games in relief.

Nevada (28-25) opens play in the double-elimination MW Championship Wednesday night versus Fresno State (27-27) at Earl E. Wilson Stadium on the campus of UNLV at 7 p.m.
