NEVADA TAKES ON FRESNO WEDNESDAY: The University of Nevada (28-25, 15-15 MW) baseball team plays Fresno State (27-27, 13-17 MW) in the opening round of the Mountain West Championship on Wednesday at Earl E. Wilson Stadium in Las Vegas at 7 p.m.  The Wolf Pack earned the fourth seed after posting a 15-15 MW record while the Bulldogs are fifth with a 13-17 conference mark.
    FS won four of the six games played this season between the two schools.  The Bulldogs swept the three games at home and took the first game in Reno before the Pack scored back-to-back 9-8 walk-off victories in the final two games.

Greager walk-off homer completes Nevada comeback
RENO, Nev. - For the second day in a row the University of Nevada (21-16, 13-8 MW) baseball team got a walk-off hit to defeat Fresno State (19-21, 8-12 MW) by the same score of 9-8 at Peccole Park. On Friday it was Jordan Devencenzi with a single in the bottom of the 12th and today it was a solo home run by Bryce Greager in the bottom of the ninth.

NCAA REGIONAL BID ON THE LINE:  The seven-team Mountain West Championship gets underway on Wednesday morning at UNLV's Earl E. Wilson Stadium with the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Regionals on the line.  The winner of the MW Championship will received one of 64 bids to the NCAA Championship.

PACK FINISHES FOURTH: Heading into the final weekend of Mountain West play Nevada was tied for third with San Diego State and needed a sweep at UNLV to finish in the top two and earn a bye in the MW Championship.  Unfortunately the Pack lost all three games at UNLV and SDSU won twice at Fresno State to earn the third seed as Nevada finished fourth.  In the preseason coaches poll Nevada was picked fifth.  Last season the Pack finished fifth of out then six teams in its first year in the MW.

JOHNSON WINS 60th: First-year head coach Jay Johnson earned his 60th win as a head coach when the Pack defeated Sacramento State 10-3 at Aces Ballpark on Apr. 30.  Win number 50 came earlier this season when the Pack defeated Grand Canyon 3-2 on Apr. 1.  Johnson is 65-41 in two seasons as a head coach.  Johnson took over for Gary Powers who retired after 31 seasons leading the Wolf Pack.  Powers won 937 games leading the Wolf Pack.  Johnson came to Nevada after spending the last eight seasons as associate head coach at the University of San Diego.

28 WINS SURPASSES 2013 TOTAL: Nevada's 28 wins is three more than the 25 the team has last year going 25-32.  The Wolf Pack's 15 Mountain West victories is four more than the 11 a year ago.  Currently the team is 28-25.

BLUEBERG SETS APPEARANCE RECORD: Nevada junior Colby Blueberg set the Wolf Pack single season record with his 29th appearance on May 5 vs. UC Davis.  Since then Blueberg made four more appearances increasing the record to 33.  His 77 career appearances ranks third in school history.
    In his outings versus New Mexico and Utah Valley he earned the first two saves of his career.  
    As a freshman and sophomore he appeared in 22 games.

WHITT ON THE MOVE: Sophomore Adam Whitt continues to climb the Nevada season and career saves list.  Whitt has seven saves this season and eight in his career.   The seven saves this season is tied for the seventh best season in school history and his eight career saves is tied for 10th at Nevada.
    Whitt's 28 appearances is tied with Rico Lagattuta (1994) for the second most in a season at Nevada.

MEYER SETS PACK DOUBLES MARK: Junior Kewby Meyer's 26th double of the season came at UNLV on May 16 and set the school record for doubles in a season.  Meyer's 46 career doubles is 10th in Pack history and one behind Shane Slayton (1993-96) and Jacob Butler (2002-05) for eighth
    The 26 doubles this season ranks first nationally.

BROOKS MAKING TWO MOUND APPEARANCES IN SAME GAME: Freshman Trenton Brooks earned his first college win in an odd way pitching 2/3rds of an inning vs. UC Davis on May 6.  Brooks started the game in right field and made two appearances on the mound in the 10th inning.  He retired a batter then returned to right field and after a walk by reliever Jordan Dunatov went back to the mound to get the final out of the inning.  The Pack scored twice in the bottom of the 10th to give Brooks his first collegiate win.  
    Since then Brooks as pitched twice vs. New Mexico on May 11 and Utah Valley on May 13 in the same game.
    Brooks improved to 2-1 earning a victory when the Pack defeated St. Mary's College 6-3.  He allowed one run on four hits in 3.2 innings on the mound.

BYLER AND MEYER LEADING THE WAY: As expected a pair of juniors are leading the Wolf Pack offense this season.  Left fielder Kewby Meyer and first baseman Austin Byler are one-two in 11 offensive categories on the team.  Meyer is the only player to start every game and Byler has started all but one because of illness.
    Byler leads the Pack in slugging percentage (.660), on base percentage (.426), runs (45), RBI (45), triples (5), home runs (14), total bases (132) and multiple RBI games (11).  He is second in batting average (.335), hits (78), doubles (13), sac flies (3), stolen bases (7), at bats (200), total plate appearances (238) and multiple hit games (21).  
    Meyer tops the team in batting average (.348), hits (78), doubles (26), total plate appearances (246), at bats (224) and multiple hit games (26).  He is second in slugging percentage (.522), on base percentage (.402), runs (44), RBI (29) and total bases (117).

KAPLAN EARNS ACADEMIC HONOR: Senior infielder Scott Kaplan has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District VIII baseball team.  Kaplan, from Dana Point, Calif. has grade point average of 3.95 in History and will now appear on the national ballot in hopes of earning academic All-America honors.  The senior has played primarily third base this season but has also seen time at second base.
