Pack Fall 8-6 In Sunday's First Game At Fresno State

Fresno, Calif. – Fresno State (21-25, 5-10 WAC) got a two-run walk off home run from first baseman Alan Ahmady in the bottom of the ninth inning to defeat Nevada (24-21, 9-5 WAC) 8-6 in the first game of a Western Athletic Conference doubleheader at Pete Beiden Field in Fresno, Calif. today.  The loss snapped the Wolf Pack’s season-high six-game hit streak leaving them 24-21 on the season and 9-5 in WAC play while the Bulldogs improved to 21-25 on the year and 5-10 in conference play. 

FS scored three times in the top of the eighth inning to tie the game a 6-6.  Third baseman Tom Mendonca’s home run scored the first two runs and catcher Trent Garrison’s double tied the game.  Ahmady’s home run came with one down in the bottom of the ninth inning and scored left fielder Dusty Robinson who reached on a walk.

Trailing 3-2 Nevada scored three runs in the top of the fifth inning to take a 5-3 lead.  Thir\d baseman Tyson Jaquez drove home two with a bases loaded single and designated hitter Nick Melino’s single scored the third run of the inning.  The Pack added a single run in the top of the eighth inning on right fielder Brett Hart’s single that scored Melino after he doubled.  The Pack held a 6-3 advantage until FS scored the final five runs of the game to win 8-6.

Reliever Daniel Tinlin (4-1) suffered his first loss of the season allowing three runs on three hits in 1.1 innings of action.  Holden Sprague (4-2) earned the winning pitching a scoreless ninth inning. 

Left fielder Matt Bowman (2-for-5,R), Jaquez (2-for-4,2RBI), Melino (2-for-4,R,RBI) and shortstop Kevin Rodland (2-for-3,2R) topped the Pack with two hits each.  Jaquez and Hart each drove in two in the game.

Robinson (2-for-4,R,RB) and Garrison had two hits apiece for FS.  Ahmady and Medonca finished with three and two RBI respectively.
