Kort Named WAC Hitter Of The Week
DENVER Nevada first baseman Shaun Kort has been named the Western Athletic Conference Baseball Hitter of the Week, respectively, for April 9-15. Kort, a freshman from Woodland Hills, Calif. (Woodland Hills HS), hit .438 (7-16) with five runs, six RBI, four home runs and two walks as Nevada went 3-1 last week. He opened the week going 2-for-4 with a home run against Stanford. It was his first home run since his first at-bat of the season on January 27. In the sweep of San Jose State, he was 2-for-5 on Friday before going 3-for-4 with three home runs in consecutive at-bats and a career-high four RBI in an 8-7 win on Saturday. It is Kort’s first career WAC Hitter of the Week award and the third for a Wolf Pack player this year. The other player of the week nominations were junior outfielder Ozzie Lewis, Fresno State; junior second baseman Jonathan Hee, Hawaii; junior first baseman Albie Goulder, Louisiana Tech; and junior catcher Joe Leghorn, New Mexico State.
The other pitcher of the week nominations sophomore Tanner Scheppers, Fresno State; and junior Kyle Howe, Nevada.
