Howe Pitches Nevada To 3-1 Victory In Saturday's First Game
Reno, Nev. - University of Nevada(19-14) senior Kyle Howe(5-0) pitched a complete game as the Wolf Pack defeated Utah Valley(7-22-1) 3-1, in the first game of a doubleheader at Peccole Park in Reno Saturday afternoon. The complete games was the second in a row for the Pack as senior Rod Scurry tossed one last night in a 1-0 victory over the Wolverines. With victory the Pack improved to 19-14 on the season while UVU dropped to 7-22-1.
Nevada took an early 1-0 lead when catcher Tyson Jaquez took UVU starter Aaron Brady deep for his third home run of the season over the left center field fence. Designated hitter Terry Walsh hit his sixth home run of the season to start the bottom of the fourth inning and it was 2-0 Pack.
The Pack manufactured a run in the sixth to go on top 3-0. Third baseman Jason Rodriguez started the inning with a double and moved to third on a ground out. Rodriguez scored on right fielder Mike Hale's sacrifice fly to center field.
The Wolverines scored their first run of the series in the top of the seventh when third baseman Jace Brinkerhoff doubled and came around to score on center fielder Scott Crowshaw's RBI single to make the score 3-1. That would be all the scoring as Howe shut down the UVU bats the rest of the game.
