Pacific Scores 10 Runs In The Eighth Inning To Down Nevada 15-5

Reno, Nev. - Pacific(17-18) scored 10 runs in the eighth inning to down the University of Nevada(17-13) 15-5 in a non-conference game at Peccole Park on Tuesday afternoon in Reno. The loss dropped the Wolf Pack to 17-13 on the season while the Tigers improved to 17-18 on the year.
Nevada led 5-3 after seven innings put Pacific scored 10 runs on 10 hits in the top of the eighth to take a commanding 13-5 lead. After the Tigers had pulled within a run at 5-4 Pack shortstop Robert Marcial was unable to handle a ground ball that could have ended the inning with a double play and UOP went on to score nine more runs. The very next hitter, in third baseman Jesse Kovacs hit a grandslam and right fielder Jerin Harper also belted a three-run homer in the big inning.
The Pack led 3-0 after four innings but Pacific tied it up with three runs in the top of the fifth inning. Nevada third baseman Eric Newman's RBI single in the sixth put the Pack back on top 4-3. Center fielder Jacob Butler hit a solo home run in the seventh to make it a two-run game at 5-3 before the Tigers scored the next 12 runs. In the top of the ninth inning pinch hitter Ramon Glasgow hit a two-run homer to make the final score 15-5.
Jim McCarthy(0-1) allowed a hit to the only batter he faced in the eighth inning and was tagged with the loss. Gregg Reynolds(3-0), the fourth UOP pitcher, got the win allowing just one run in three innings on the mound.
First baseman Ben Mummy(2-for-5,2RBI) was the only Nevada hitter to have multiple hits in the game. Pacific was led by Harper(3-for-5,2R,3RBI), and designated hitter Ryan Wilmer(3-for-4,2R,RBI) who finished with three hits each on the day. Butler hit a home run for Nevada while Harper, Glasgow, and Kovachs hit home runs for the Tigers.
Nevada hosts SJSU this weekend for a key three-game Western Athletic Conference series that features the top two teams in the league. Currently the Spartans(8-4) are one half game in front of the Wolf Pack(6-3).
