Pack Fall 11-1 To Fresno State In Game Two Of Saturday's Doubleheader

Fresno, Calif. The University of Nevada(13-11, 5-2 WAC) baseball team split its Western Athletic Conference doubleheader with Fresno State(14-13, 4-3 WAC) on Saturday at Pete Beiden Field in Fresno, Calif. falling by the 10-run rule 11-1 in the second game.   The Wolf Pack won the first game 4-1 but trail in the series 2-1 after FS won 12-4 Friday night. The loss dropped the Pack to 5-2 in WAC action and to 13-11 on the season while the Bulldogs improved to 4-3 in conference play and 14-13 overall.


FS got a two-run homer in the bottom of the second inning from first baseman Alan Ahmady to go in front 2-0.  The Pack scored an unearned run in the top of the third to close within one when catcher Travis Simas doubled and later scored on an error by FS second baseman Erik Wetzel to make the score 2-1.


A pair of two-run homers by Ahmady and third baseman Tommy Mendonca in the third inning and it was 6-1.  Left fielder Steve Susdorf blasted a three-run homer in the bottom of the fourth inning and the Bulldogs were in front 9-1.  Susdorf doubled home the final two runs of the game in the bottom of the fifth to make the final score 11-1.


Nevada starter Chris Garcia(0-3) lost for the third time this season allowing six runs on nine hits in 2.1 innings on the mound.  FS starter Justin Miller(4-0) won for the fourth time this year giving up just one run on three hits.  Miller struck out eight and walked just two pitching a complete game.


Left fielder Matt Bowman(1-for-3), shortstop Garrett Patterson(1-for-3) and Simas(1-for-3,R) finished with a hit each as Nevada totaled just three in the game.


Susdorf(3-for-4,2R,5RBI) had three hits and five RBI in the game while Ahmady(2-for-3,2R,4RBI) hit a pair of two-run homers to account for his four RBI in the game.


The final game of the four-game series is slated for 1:05 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.
