Pack Falls 13-8 In First Game Of Series At CSU Bakersfield
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The University of Nevada (7-5) baseball team rallied from an 8-2 deficit only to fall 13-8 in the first game of a three-game series at Hardt Field to CSU Bakersfield (6-7) Friday afternoon. The loss leaves the Wolf Pack at 7-5 on the season while the Roadrunners improved to 6-7.
Down 8-2 the Pack scored twice in the top of the seventh inning when right fielder Ronnie Mitchell's double down the right field line scored two. A four-run top of the eighth inning tied the game at 8-8. Nevada was aided by a pair of CSUB errors. Mitchell once again delivered the big hit with a two-RBI single that tied the game at 8-8.
The Roadrunners struck for five runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to put the game out of reach. Pitcher Martin Medina, who started the game at third base, then came on to earn the win on the mound, drove home two runs in the inning for CSUB.
Reliever Tyler Graham (1-1) was tagged with the loss after he allowed five runs; four earned pitching the eighth inning. Medina (2-0) earned the win pitching 1.1 innings of shutout relief.
Center fielder Westley Moss (2-for-4,2R) and Mitchell (2-for-4,4RBI) led the Pack with two hits apiece in the game. Mitchell drove in four of Nevada's eight runs on the day. Moss, shortstop Kevin Rodland and infielder Nick Leid extended their hit streaks to eight, seven and six games respectively.
Medina (3-for-5,2R,4RBI) led CSUB with three hits and four RBI on the day. Right fielder Ryan McIntyre (2-for-4,2R,3RBI) and first baseman Derek Geisinger (2-for-4,R) added two hits each to the Roadrunners 14 hit attack. McIntyre had three RBI for CSUB.
Game two of the series is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.
