Nevada Extends Win Streak To Six With 10-6 Victory at UC Davis
Davis, Calif. - The University of Nevada (10-9) collected a season-high 18 hits as the Wolf Pack defeated UC Davis 10-6 on Tuesday at Dobbins Stadium. With the victory, the Pack extended its winning streak to six games.
The first three hitters in the batting order for Nevada collected 11 hits, scored seven runs and had six RBI. Senior Trevor O'Sullivan(4-for-5,3R,2RBI,SB) and junior Jason Rodriguez(4-for-5,4R,2B,3B) both had four hits and two runs batted in. Freshman Shaun Kort was 3-for-5 with 2 RBI.
Nevada got out to a 5-0 lead in the top of the fifth inning after senior Matt Suleski (3-for-3,2RBI) singled in Rodriguez but UC Davis responded with five runs in the bottom of the inning. Junior starter Ben Colton did not allow a run through the first four innings while striking out four but had trouble in the fifth inning allowing four earned runs.
After UC Davis took the lead 6-5 in the bottom of the sixth, Nevada responded with two runs in the top of the seventh. The Pack had back-to-back singles by O'Sullivan and Rodriguez who both scored on a RBI hits by Kort and Suleski.
The Pack cushioned its lead with three runs in the top of the eighth with a RBI fielders choice groundout by senior Chris Siewert and a two-run single by O'Sullivan.
UC Davis was led by Daniel Descalso(5-for-5,2R) and Aaron Hanke(4-for-5,2RBI).
Senior Kody Keroher(3-1) picked up his third win of the season after pitching three scoreless innings to finish the game.
The next action for the Pack is a three-game series at UC Irvine with the first game scheduled for Friday at 6 p.m.
