No. 13 Oregon State Defeats Nevada 13-4

Corvallis, Ore. - The University of Nevada(4-9) fell to 13th ranked Oregon State(7-4) 13-4 in the first-game of a three-game series at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field in Corvallis, Ore. on Friday afternoon. The loss dropped the Wolf Pack to 4-9 on the season while the Beavers improved to 7-4.
The Beavers got a three-run homer from left fielder Cole Gillespie in the bottom of the first to take a 3-0 lead. Gillespie drove in shortstop Darwin Barney who reached on a single and first baseman Bill Rowe who walked. Nevada cut into the lead scoring a run in the top of the second inning. Third baseman Brian Joynt reached first base on catchers interference and moved to third base on left fielder Matt Suleski's double to right center field. Joynt scored on a wild pitch to get the Pack on the scoreboard.
Nevada got a solo home run from first baseman Terry Walsh in the top of the third inning to make it a one run game at 3-2. It was Walsh's second home run of the season. Beaver Mitch Canham belted a two-run homer in the bottom of the fourth inning to push their lead back to three at 5-2. Canham's home run scored designated hitter Geoff Wagner who walked with one-down.
OSU scored eight runs in their next three at bats on the way to the 13-4 victory. The Pack scored their final runs in the top of the seventh inning. Walsh drove in the first run and catcher Baker Krukow singled home the second run of the inning.
Starter Tim Schoeninger(1-2) lost for the second time this season, both have come to OSU. Schoeninger allowed six runs on five hits in five innings on the mound. OSU starter Dallas Buck(3-0) defeated the Pack for the second time this season pitching five innings and surrendered just two runs on five hits. Just one of the runs was earned.
Pack designated hitter Matt Bowman(3-for-4,R) had a game high three hits in the game. Walsh(2-for-4,R,2RBI) had two hits and drove in a pair including one with his second home run of the season. Krukow(2-for-2,RBI) came off the bench and delivered two hits and drove ina run.
Four Beaver hitters had two hits in the game. Gillespie(2-for-4,2R,4RBI) was one of the two-hit performers for OSU and he also scored a pair of runs and drove in a game high four. Gillespie and Canham homered in the game.
Game two of the series is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on Saturday at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field.
