Garcia Pitches Pack To 10-3 Victory In Game Three At Pacific
STOCKTON, Calif. -University of Nevada (4-3) left-hander Chris Garcia (1-0) pitched seven innings of one-run baseball, as the Wolf Pack defeated Pacific (4-3) 10-3 in the final game of a three-game series at Klein Family Field on Sunday afternoon. With the victory the Pack avoided the series sweep and improved to 4-3 on the season while the Tigers dropped to 4-3.
Nevada scored the first eight runs of the game on the way to the victory. First baseman Shaun Kort hit a solo home run with two down in the top of the first inning and Garcia took it from there shutting down the UOP bats. The Pack scored single runs in the second and third innings to move in front 3-0.
In the top of the fourth inning, third baseman Nick Leid started the inning with his first home run of the season. Right fielder Ronnie Mitchell also scored in the inning after he singled and came home on center fielder Westley Moss' single.
Kort's two-run double in the top of the sixth inning was part of a three-run inning and it was 8-0. Nevada added single runs in the eighth and ninth innings to make the final score 10-3.
UOP scored single runs in the sixth, eighth and ninth innings to account for their total in the game.
Garcia won his first of the season giving up just one run on five hits in seven innings while striking out seven. The seven strikeouts were one off his career high. Casey Neimeyer (1-1) suffered the loss allowing five runs on seven hits in 3.1 innings on the mound.
Moss (3-for-5,2R,RBI), Kort (3-for-4,R,5RBI), Leid (3-for-5,R,RBI) and Mitchell (3-for-5,R,RBI) all had three hits for the Pack. Kort drove home a game-high five and hit his second home run of the season. Left fielder Brian Barnett accounted for two RBI in the game.
Right fielder Nick Longmire (3-for-5,RBI) and center fielder Brett Christopher (2-for-3,R) led the Tigers with three and two hits respectively. Three different UOP hitters had an RBI in the game.
Nevada continues its four-game road swing with a single game at UC Davis on Monday at 2:00 p.m.
