Pack Drop Game 1 Of Doubleheader At Pacific 11-6
STOCKTON, Calif. - The University of Nevada (3-2) baseball team lost the first game of a doubleheader at Klein Family Field on Saturday afternoon to Pacific (3-2) by a score of 11-6. With the loss the Wolf Pack fell to 3-2 while the Tigers improved to 3-2 on the season.
Nevada jumped to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning when center fielder Westley Moss' first career home run at any level of baseball, cleared the left field fence to make the score 1-0. Unfortunately for the Pack that would be their last lead as Pacific scored the 10 runs on the way to the 11-6 victory.
The Pack scored three times in the top of the eighth inning, when Nick Leid
cleared the bases with a double, after he had entered the game as a defensive replacement at second base.
Nevada starter Beau Witsoe (1-1) was tagged with loss allowing four runs on five hits in 1.1 innings on the mound. Marcus Pointer (2-0) earned the victory for UOP giving up two runs on four hits in 5.1 innings of action.
Moss (3-for-5,R,RBI) led the team with three hits and drove in a one with his home run. Right fielder Brian Barnett (2-for-5,R), third baseman Garrett Yrigoyen (2-for-5) and infielder Joe Kohan (2-for-2,2R) added two hits each while Leid scored three with his double.
Right fielder Nick Longmire (3-for-3,2R), first baseman Brian Martin (3-for-4,3RBI), designated hitter Matthew Carvutto (3-for-4,3R) and third baseman Mike Walker (3-for-5,3R,4RBI) all had three hits for the Tigers. Walker Three of Walker's RBI came on a three-run homer in the fourth inning. finished with four RBI and Martin three.
