Nevada Scores 13 Unanswered Runs To Defeat Buffalo 13-3

Reno, Nev. - The University of Nevada(5-9) scored 13 unanswered runs on the way to defeating Buffalo(1-1) 13-3 in the first-game of a three-game series at Peccole Park in Reno Friday afternoon.  With the victory the Wolf Pack are now 5-9 while the Bulls are 1-1 after playing just two games this season.

UB got to Pack starter Ryan Rodriguez in the top of the third inning scoring three runs on three hits.  First baseman Nick Walczak and third baseman Jake Rosenbeck each drove in a run in the inning. 

Trailing 3-0 heading into the bottom of the fourth inning the Nevada scored 13 unanswered runs in its next five innings at the plate to easily win the game.  In the fourth inning Nevada sent nine hitters to the plate and five scored to put them in front to stay 5-3.  Four different hitters drove in a run in the big inning and the fifth run scored on an error.

In the fifth inning designated hitter Terry Walsh doubled in catcher Konrad Schmidt who walked to make the score 6-3.  Nevada put together a four-run sixth inning to increase its advantage to 10-3.  Shortstop Chris Siewert singled home two of the runs in the sixth inning.  The Pack added a single run in the seventh inning and two more in the eighth inning to make the final score 13-3.

Rodriguez(2-2) got the win allowing three runs on six hits and struck out five in seven innings on the mound.  It was the third consecutive start that he pitched seven innings in the game.  He reached three milestones in the game as he has amassed 25 career wins, 311.2 career innings pitched, and 259 career strikeouts.  The 25 wins and 259 strikeouts are tied with Mateo Miramontes(2001-03)  for second on the career list and the 311.2 career innings pitched ranks second,  just in front of Miramontes’ 311.1.  Topping all three lists is Darrell Rasner(2000-02) with 28 career wins, 341 innings pitched, and 302 strikeouts.

Bulls’ starter Mike Radanovic(0-1) suffered the loss giving up five runs on seven hits in four innings of action.

First baseman Shaun Kort(3-for-4,2R,RBI) led the team with three hits which included a pair of triples.  Right fielder Dan Eastham(2-for-3,R,RBI) collected two hits, scored a run, and drove in one in the game.  Siewert(1-for-4,R,2RBI) drove in a game high two with his hit.  Second baseman David Ciarlo(1-for-3,2R,RBI) also tripled as the Pack had three triples in the game.  A total of 10 different Nevada hitters drove in at least one run in the victory.

Walczak(3-for-4,R,RBI) had three hits to lead the Bulls and also scored a run and drove in one on the day.

Note:  Ryan Rodriguez tied Mateo Miramontes(2001-03) for second in career wins(25) and career strikeouts(259).  He moved past Miramontes into second with 311.2 career innings pitched.
