Feb. 19, 2005
Las Vegas, Nev. - The University of Nevada(5-3) completed the doubleheader sweep of UNLV(1-7) at the Earl E. Wilson Stadium in Las Vegas winning game two 10-3 after taking the first game of the day 12-10. With the win the Wolf Pack have won three in a row to improve to 5-3 on the season while the Rebels stand at 1-7.
Nevada jumped all over Rebel starter Eric Brock scoring five runs in the top of the first inning. First baseman Ben Mummy drove in the first run with an RBI single and right fielder Shawn Scobee's bases loaded walk scored the second run of the inning. Catcher Baker Krukow cleared the bases with a double to stake the Pack to a 5-0 lead after a half inning of play.
A three run top of the third made the score 8-0 Nevada. Third baseman Brett Hayes had a two RBI single in the inning and designated hitter Michael Vass drove in the third run. UNLV answered with three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning but that would be all they would get in the game as Patrick Mason did not allow a run in 2.1 innings and Steve Taylor pitched 1.2 scoreless, hitless innings. Single runs by the Wolf Pack in the sixth and eighth innings made the final score 10-3.
Pack starter Travis Sutton left after the first inning due to a sore arm. Reliever Chris Scott(2-0) pitched the next four innings to get the win.
Hayes(4-for-5,3R,2RBI) led the hit parade with four. Second baseman Carlos Madrid(2-for-5,2R), center fielder Jacob Butler(2-for-5,R,RBI), and Krukow(2-for-4,2-2B,3RBI) had two hits apiece. Krukow drove in a game high three.
Nevada will look for the series sweep tomorrow afternoon in the series finale at 1:00 p.m.
