Nevada Baseball Team To Begin Practice Thursday
Reno, Nev. - The University of Nevada baseball team will begin practice in preparation for the 2007 season on Thursday at Peccole Park. The Wolf Pack open the season at St. Mary’s College on Friday, January 26 at 2 p.m. The 2007 season marks the 25th at Nevada for Wolf Pack head coach Gary Powers.
Coach Powers and his staff will welcome 37 players to the first practice on Thursday. Of the 37, 22 will be playing for the Pack for the first time this season. The Pack return 11 letterwinners from last seasons squad that went 26-28 overall and 11-12 in Western Athletic Conference play. Five position starters return in catcher Baker Krukow, first baseman Daniel Eastham, second baseman David Ciarlo, third baseman Matt Bowman, and left fielder Matt Suleski. Also returning is second-team All-WAC designated hitter Terry Walsh. The lone returning starting pitcher is senior right-hander Ryan Rodriguez who topped the team with seven wins in 2006.
Nevada opens the season with 12 road games before returning home to host St. Mary’s College on Tuesday, Feb. 20 at 2 p.m. The SMC game is start of a four-game homestand and a stretch of the Pack playing seven of eight games at Peccole Park.
