Nevada Eliminated From WAC Tournament
MESA, Ariz.. - The University of Nevada (24-31) baseball team saw its season come to an end falling 11-3 to San Jose State (35-25) in an elimination game at the Western Athletic Conference Tournament being played at Hohokam Stadium in Mesa, Ariz. today. The Wolf Pack end their season 24-31.
Nevada scored first on an RBI single by second baseman Brian Barnett in the bottom of the first inning to take a 1-0 advantage. SJSU tallied four runs on four hits in the top of the third inning and never trailed in winning the elimination game. The Spartans scored two more runs in the fourth inning to make it 6-1.
The Pack scored single runs in the fourth and sixth innings to close the gap to 6-3 but a four run top of the seventh inning put the game out of reach as the 2011 season came to an end.
Starter Jeremy Cole (4-5) suffered the loss allowing four runs on five hits in three innings on the mound. Blake McFarland (8-2) earned the win giving up just three runs on eight hits in six innings of action. John Austin (1) earned the save pitch three scoreless innings of relief.
Waylen Sing Chow (2-for-4,2RBI), Brock Stassi (2-for-5,R), Barnett (2-for-5) and Garrett Yrigoyen (2-for-5) each had two hits for the Pack. Sing Chow drove in a team-high two runs.
