FRESNO, Calif. - University of Nevada senior Jamison Rowe homered with two down in the top of the 12th to give the Wolf Pack a 4-3 victory over Fresno State on day one of the Mountain West Tournament at Pete Beiden Field in Fresno, Calif. The Wolf Pack advances to play the regular season MW Champion New Mexico (35-18) Lobos on Thursday night at 7 p.m.
With tonight's victory the Pack snapped a season-high seven-game losing skid to improve to 25-30 on the season. The Bulldogs dropped to 21-32.
Nevada got a three-run homer in the top of the first from designated hitter Hugo Hernandez to jump to the early lead. FS scored three times in the bottom of the first to tie the game. It remained tied until Rowe homered in the 12th.
Pack ace Braden Shipley pitched the first eight innings and allowed three runs, two earned on seven hits and struck out eight. Senior reliever Daniel Levine (3-0) tossed three shutout innings to earn his third win of the season. Levine struck out a career-high four. Freshman Adam Whitt (1) closed the door in the 12th retiring the side to record his first save for the Pack.
Jordan Brink (4-4) the third FS pitcher suffered the loss allowing the one run on four hits in 4.1 innings on the mound.
Offensively Nevada struggled stranding 15 runners. Left fielder Brad Gerig (3-for-6) led the Pack with three hits. Right fielder Brooks Klein (2-for-5,R), third baseman Bryce Barger (2-for-5) and Rowe (2-for-5,R,HR) had two hits each. Hernandez drove in a game-high three.
Trent Garrison (2-for-5,R,RBI) and Austin Wynns (2-for-4) had two hits each for the Bulldogs.
Notes: Shipley recorded his 100th strikeout of the season and 200th of his career in the game. He is the seventh player at Nevada to record 100 strikeouts in a season and sixth to have 200 in a career. The 102 strikeouts this season ranks as the seventh best year in Pack history and the 203 in his career is the sixth most at Nevada.
