Shipley Tosses Complete Game As Pack Down Spartans 4-1

Bradey Shipley pitched a complete game as Nevada defeeated SJSU 4-1.

Final Stats

RENO, Nev.  – University of Nevada (28-21, 8-5 WAC) sophomore Bradey Shipley pitched his first complete game as the Wolf Pack defeat San Jose State University (21-23, 5-8 WAC) by a score of 4-1,  in the first game of Western Athletic Conference series at Peccole Park tonight.  With the victory the Pack improved to 8-5 in the WAC which moved them into  a tie with Hawai`i atop the conference standings as the Rainbows lost 7-6 in 12 innings at Sacramento State today.

Overall Nevada is 28-21 while SJSU dropped to 21-23 and 5-8 in WAC action.

SJSU scored its only run of the game in the top of the second inning but Nevada scored twice in the bottom of the inning.  Brooks Klein’s double tied the game and Kyle Hunt’s single put the Pack ahead to stay.

Nevada added a run in the seventh on Hunt’s RBI double.  Jamison Rowe doubled home Klein in the eighth to make the final score 4-1.

After allowing the run in the second inning Shipley (8-3) pitched seven shutout innings to toss his first complete game for the Pack.   The win was his eighth of the season which tops the team and is tied for first in the WAC.  Johnny Melero (2-6) also pitched a complete game but suffered the loss giving up four runs on 11 hits.

Kewby Meyer (3-for-4) and Klein (3-for-3,2R,RBI) had three hits each for the Wolf Pack.  Hunt (2-for-3,2RBI) collected two hits and drove in a game-high two.

Andre Mercurio (2-for-3) had two hits for the Spartans.

Game two of the series is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.
