RENO, Nev.  -  The University of Nevada (27-21, 15-11 MW) baseball team held on for a 6-5 victory over Mountain West co-leading New Mexico (34-17-1, 17-9) on Friday night at Peccole Park.  With the win the Wolf Pack improved to 15-11 in MW play and moved within two games of the Lobos and UNLV who are tied for first in the MW standings at 17-9.

Nevada is six games over .500 for the second time this season at 27-21 while UNM dropped to 34-17-1.  

UNM scored an unearned run in the top of the first to take an early 1-0 advantage.  The Pack responded with three unearned runs in the bottom of the first to go in front to stay 3-1.  Center fielder Trenton Brooks' sacrifice bunt tied the game at one as left fielder Kewby Meyer scored after starting the inning with a single.  Designated hitter Bryce Greager followed with a two RBI single and the Pack led 3-1.

Brad Gerig's RBI single in the bottom of the second scored Meyer and it was 4-1.  Nevada scored its final runs of the game in the third when second baseman Scott Kaplan doubled home two and it was 6-1 Wolf Pack.  

Lobo first baseman Jack Zoellner's second home run of the season scored two in the top of the sixth inning to get UNM within three.  Left fielder John Pustay doubled in a run in the top of the eighth inning and it was a two-run game.  

UNM was not done, scoring a run on a balk by Pack reliever Colby Blueberg in the top of the ninth with two down.  Lobo shortstop Sam Haggerty moved to third on the balk but was left on base as Blueberg retired center fielder Aaron Siple on grounder back to the mound to preserve the 6-5 Pack victory.

Lefty Barry Timko (6-2) earned his team-high sixth win of the season allowing four runs, three earned in 7.1 innings on the mound and struck out four.  Blueberg (1) recorded his first save in three seasons in the Silver & Blue giving up one run on three hits in 1.2 innings on the mound.  It was his first run allowed over 21 innings in 17 games in MW play this season.

Colton Thomson (6-6) suffered the loss giving up six runs, three earned in five innings on the mound.

Greager (3-for-4,R,2RBI) led the Pack with three hits on the night.  Meyer (2-for-5,2R), catcher Jordan Devencenzi (2-for-3,R) and Kaplan (2-for-3,2RBI) added two hits each as the team totaled 11.  Greager and Kaplan tied for game-high honors with two RBI apiece.

Haggerty (2-for-4,R) and Pustay (2-for-4,R,RBI) had two hits each for UNM as they had eight in the game.  Zoellner (1-for-3,R,2RBI) drove in two of the Lobos five runs.

The final game of the series is set for a 1 p.m. first pitch on Sunday.  Six seniors Brad Gerig, Scott Kaplan, Bryce Barger, Joe Setum, Ryan Baker and Michael Bradshaw will be honored prior to first pitch on Senior Day at Peccole Park.
