RENO, Nev.  – University of Nevada third baseman Brad Gerig hit the first pitch in the bottom of the ninth inning over the Peccole Park left field fence to give the Wolf Pack a 4-3 walk-off victory over San Diego State Sunday afternoon.  

With the victory the Pack improved to 24-23 on the season and 11-13 in MW play.  The Aztecs fell to 23-24 and 13-11 in conference play.  Nevada took the series 2-1 after winning 7-1 on Friday coupled with Sunday’s victory.  SDSU won Saturday’s game 4-3 in 10 innings.

Pack starter Tom Jameson pitched eight shutout innings and left with Nevada on top 3-0.  Reliever Michael Fain took over in the top of the ninth inning and SDSU scored three times on three hits to tie the score at three.

Nevada struck first in the bottom of the second when catch Ryan Teel dropped down a bunt that scored right fielder Brooks Klein after he started the inning with a double.  The Pack scored twice in the bottom of the fifth to take a 3-0 lead.  Shortstop Kyle Hunt was hit by pitch and crossed the plate on center fielder Jamison Rowe’s double.  Rowe scored the second run of the inning on designated hitter Austin Byler’s single.

It remained a three-run Pack advantage until the ninth when SDSU scored three times and Gerig delivered the walk-off home run for the 4-3 Nevada win.

Fain (3-3) earned the win pitching the top of the ninth.  SDSU closer Bubba Derby (3-3) was tagged with the loss giving up the home run to Gerig.

Rowe (2-for-4,R,RBI) and Klein (2-for-4,R) each had two hits in the game.  Rowe, Teel, Byler and Gerig each drove in one.

Tyler France (2-for-3) led SDSU with two hits in the game.  Matt Munoz doubled home two runs to the tie the game in the ninth after Brad Haynal started the inning with a solo home run.

Nevada returns to action on Tuesday hosting St. Mary’s at 2 p.m.
